Whether or not Randall Cobb plays Saturday against Georgia will be a game time decision, Rich Brooks said Thursday.
Cobb has a nagging shoulder injury that worsened in the win against Vanderbilt.
"For all those fans out there that want him to touch the ball all the time, it's a tough job when you take as many hits as those guys do, and he's not the biggest guy in the world. He's one of the most talented but he's not one of the biggest," Brooks said of Cobb.
Brooks said at the beginning of the week that he planned to "open up" the passing attack against Georgia, a strategy that would become even more difficult if Cobb does not play.
Cobb is Kentucky's second-leading rusher with 396 yards and seven touchdowns while running out of the wildcat formation. He also leads the team with 32 receptions for 384 yards and four scores.
"Gees, I hope he's ready," starting quarterback Morgan Newton said. "Anytime Cobb's not out there it's tough."
Cobb did not play when the Cats beat Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 7 because of a thumb injury.
Joker Phillips said it is still too early to get a gut feeling if Cobb will play against The Bulldogs
"I wouldn't put anything past the guy, he's a warrior and a tough guy and he could show [up] and be able to make a big splash in this game," he said.
Phillips has yet to audition anyone else to replace Cobb in the Wildcat package that was so successful against Vanderbilt.
There is a chance that the Cats will still run some Wildcat plays with Newton staying at quarterback if Cobb cannot play, Phillips said.
