A woman riding a lawn mower on the grounds of Eastern State Hospital suffered burns after the mower somehow triggered a gas fire at an out building at the Lexington facility Thursday afternoon.

The fire broke out at about 1:15 p.m. at the facility, located off of Newtown Pike. Officials at the scene say the building is the gas house where utilities for the facility are turned on and off.

Officials said they were able to get teh fire contained and were able to shut off the gas line at about 2 p.m. They originally said they would try to let the fire burn itself out because they feared that trying to put it out might cause a larger fire.

So far, there's no word on the name or the extent of the injuries suffered by the victim.

Officials say Newtown Pike is closed in the area near the facility, and that the road is expected to re-open at around 3 p.m.
