Jerry Sloan is old school. So, when the veteran coach of the Utah Jazz compliments a player, it has meaning.
John Wall had one of his best games on Monday going against Deron Williams, who is one of the best point guards in the world.
"He's a terrific young player. "Very, very lively guy and very active with the basketball," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan told the Salt Lake Tribune. "The way he works at his game, it looks like he has nothing to do but get better."
Williams who had 28 points and 11 assists in Washington's 108-101 win, had some wonderful things to say about the former UK star.
"He's definitely one of the best point guards in the game already," said Williams.
Wall had 19 points, 15 assists, which is his new career high, and 7 turnovers. But in the second half, the 20 year old Washington rookie had only one turnover.
Beating Utah was the first time this year Washington beat a team with a winning record.
"I knew it was going to be a challenge for me and a challenge for my teammates to come out with a win, but we've got a good win at home against a marquee team in the Western Conference," Wall told the Washington Post. "It's good that we were able to keep our composure, make shots down the stretch."
To get him ready for the game, Coach Flip Saunders told Wall with a text message that he played with enthusiam and set up his teammates and not worry about scoring, he'd be doing his job.
How many players would do what Wall did. Ask his coach to fine him if he starts to put, sulk or show frustration during games. It isn't the money. John Wall wants to be great. He wants to be pushed.
