About 400 homes remain without power in a Lexington neighborhood after a transformer caught on fire early Friday morning.
Neighbors said they heard what sounded like thunder and saw a flash just before the lights went out along Thames Drive. The pole caught fire and firefighters were concerned it could fall on a nearby house. Crews managed to douse the flames before the pole toppled.
Initially, about 1,000 homes were without power. By 5 a.m., that number was down to just under 400.
Neighbors say they think lightning hit the pole.
Kentucky Utilities crews continue work to restore power in the neighborhood.
