The Wayne County School system issued a statement Thursday morning informing the community that a rumor is circulating that a weapon was brought to Wayne County High School.
School officials said this is nothing but a rumor; there is no evidence to substantiate this. The rumor is a result of a "list of dares" game that has been allegedly played by young people. The list of pranks allegedly continued to grow to include dangerous and illegal activities.
Local authorities have been notified and are investigating. School officials say students are safe at Wayne County Schools, police officers are on site, and school administrators are over-reacting, rather than under-reacting to this situation.
Wayne County Schools ask for the assistance of parents in talking to their students about this situation and counseling them about the dangers of being involved in a game such as this.
