Week 8 High School Football Rankings

Once again, the team sitting on top of each class remained unchanged in the latest AP football rankings.

The only change in the 1A poll was at the No. 10 spot. Harlan dropped out of the rankings, and Eminence slid into tenth. Eminence remains unbeaten against in-state schools, its only loss a 31-20 defeat at the hands of Oyler, Ohio on Sept. 14. Last week, the Warriors knocked off Bracken County 18-13. No. 7 Hazard thumped Harlan 56-19. Frankfort shut out Paris 38-0 and stayed in second behind Mayfield.

Somerset reclaimed No.2 in the 2A poll with its 24-7 victory over Danville. The Admirals dropped to fourth after the loss, with Murray moving up into third. Lexington Christian Academy rolled past Middlesboro 42-14 and took sole possession of sixth. The Eagles will travel to Somerset this Friday.

Bourbon County jumped past Belfry into the fourth spot in 3A after a 28-8 win over Garrard County. Belfry fell 35-20 to class 4A No. 6 Ashland Blazer and dropped to fifth. Breathitt County and Bell County remained second and third behind Louisville Central. Breathitt County was idle, and Bell County easily handled Clay County 39-0. Wayne County stayed put at No. 7 after a 48-7 victory over Casey County. Morgan County remained undefeated with a 42-0 drubbing of Knott County Central and finally got a little bump in the polls. The Cougars moved up to No. 9.

The top of the 4A poll remained unchanged with Highlands firmly in control of the top spot. Lexington Catholic remained in second after its 56-14 win over Taylor County. Russell County and Knox Central both took the week off, and remained fourth and fifth behind Covington Catholic. The Lakers and Panthers will meet in two weeks. Boyle County was idle, but slipped a spot to ninth behind No. 8 Johnson Central.The Golden Eagles won their fourth straight, 59-12 over Greenup County.

In class 5A, Franklin County fought off Woodford County 76-55, and Anderson County knocked off West Jessamine 41-39. Both teams held steady at No. 4 and No. 7 respectively. The Flyers and Bearcats will square off in Frankfort this Friday.

Scott County remained solidly in third behind Trinity and St. Xavier in class 6A. The Cardinals took down Henry Clay 69-34. With a 42-17 victory over Dunbar, Bryan Station held on to tenth. The Defenders will host Scott County Friday. Lafayette won its fourth straight, a 35-13 victory over George Rogers Clark and managed some votes, but not enough to break into the top ten.
