He's a great kid," says Frances Pulley.
"I love him to death."
For a moment, can we forget that John Wall is Yahoo Sports player of the year? Let's talk about the relationship between mother and son. Frances has made it to 8 or 9 games at Rupp, and a number of games on the road.
"It means a lot," says John.
"It's mainly because my sister is my biggest fan."
"She usually be scared to watch. She usually runs out of the gym, but she can't run to far because she sits so close."
Frances Pulley is like a number of parents we've met. When Dicky Lyons played football for UK, and his Dad was a big star at UK, he couldn't watch when the game got tight.
"I do that now," say Frances. "I walk out now."
So if the game gets close in the second half?
"I'm out. I'm gone. Yeah."
Do you put your ear by the door and if there is yelling and screaming....
"I know he is doing good."
And if you don't hear anything do you worry?
"Yes, very much."
John is smiling when talking about his Mom.
"Yeah, in high school she was the worst," says Wall.
"She'd be at the door peeping in and out, peeping in and out. She would run. I'd be like you can't do that if you want to watch the end of the game."
As far as next year, it hit John during senior day when the Cats beat Florida. He admits to fighting back some tears.
"I thought about it for a couple of seconds. Just thinking that this might be my last game so. I was kind of getting emotional."
"I don't know if he is going to stay here next year or not," say Frances Pulley.
You guys will talk about it after the year is over ?
"Yes sir," says Frances.
Now if we can only get Frances to watch her son at the end of games, where his name should be Mr. Clutch.
