Things are tight at UK. That's normal. You have a UK team tied for last place in the SEC East, and if UK's perfect record at Rupp under Cal doesn't continue Tuesday night, UK will be in last place by themselves.
No one feels good about what's happening with this 16-6 team as they get ready for Tennessee.
"I don't think we've hit complete bottom, we are by no means where we were last year but couple of shots here and there we are talking about this in a different way," says Jon Hood.
"We're upset," says Doron Lamb." "We lost four games by two points."
Never in his basketball career has Doron Lamb been so frustrated. Never! That's powerful.
"You could say yeah because I never lost games back to back in no team. It hurts, we lost two games back to back by two points and in one game we lost on a tough shot and a three point shot, so it's hard."
The most important shot last season was spectacular, but when it comes to it's value, it was tremendously overlooked.
When John Wall played Superman in his first game and hit the game winning shot against Miami, the Cats gained a level of swagger that took a life of it's own. It carried over to North Carolina, where Wall put himself on the map. Fast forward to this year. Where is the swagger compared to last year? That intangible, the swagger, isn't the same.
"We are a talented team," says Lamb. "We have a great group of guys and we're talented and we can working together and play defense we can beat anybody."
UK isn't playing the kind of defense Cal wants. Alabama who you wouldn't say is more athletic that UK is giving up 58 points a game in the SEC. They are the best in the conference. Tennessee and UK are second and third. More stops and you get more wins, and there is still time to get that swagger.
