The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for northern parts of the state beginning Friday night.
The advisory takes effect at 6 p.m. and will be in effect until 11 a.m. Saturday. Freezing rain is expected to develop Friday afternoon and evening across northern Kentucky and then move northwestward into southern Indiana. The precipitation may start out as a mix of rain and freezing rain, but is expected to change over to freezing rain after dark.
The freezing rain will likely change over to a period of snow before ending around noon Saturday. The main impact of the freezing rain will likely result in icing of sidewalks, driveways and roadways in the advisory area. The exact amount of icing is still in question, however a couple of tenths of an inch of ice will be possible.
LEX 18 is tracking this developing winter weather and will have updates as they are warranted.
