WKU 32 UK 31 In OT

WKU had lost 20 in a row to BCS schools since they started playing them on a regular basis in 2001.

Max Smith on the move throws the ball high. Brett Harrington, a junior college transfer picks it off.

It looked like WKU had an eight yard TD play from quarterback Kawaun Jakes to tight end Jack Boyle, but an illegal formation penalty made WKU settle for a 23 yard field goal by freshman Garrett Schwettman. WKU leads 3-0 with 7:17 to go in the first quarter.

The first quarter was all about turnovers. Max Smith throws two interceptions and Avery Williamson for UK picked off a tipped pass by Kawaun Jakes.

WKU with a terrific drive that has them winning the battle at the line of scrimmage. Antonio Andrews from Fort Campbell runs 11 yards to the one, and then he takes it in with ease as WKU goes up 10-0 with 7:06 to go in the half. It's a 12 play 71 yard drive that takes 6:28.

Max Smith gets picked a third time. Jonathan Dowling times Max's throw, and on his second interception he takes it back to the two. Two plays later Antonio Andrews scores from the one and WKU is up 17-0.

UK wakes up. Jonathan George runs it in from the eight. It's a 7 play 65 yard drive that takes 2 minutes. WKU leads 17-7 with 3:01 to go in the half.

UK feels better about themselves going into halftime. DeMarco Robinson with a nice 21 yard catch and run. On the next snap, with four seconds left, Craig McIntosh hits a 47 yard field goal as WKU leads 17-10 at the half.

WKU takes over in the third quarter. Kawaun Jakes hits Willie McNeal from the 13. Jakes threw the ball low so only McNeal could get it in the end zone. It's a 12 play 75 yard drive that takes 6:58. WIth 8:02 to go in the third quarter, WKU leads 24-10.

UK has to answer right back, and they do. Jonathan George takes a short pass, and with a terrific run scores from the 15. UK gets back in the game with 3:03 to go in the third. WKU's lead is cut to 24-17. It's a 12 play 84 yard drive that takes 4:21.

UK gets it back and Max Smith does it again. His fourth interception is Jonathan Dowling's third of the game. But, UK gets it back when Dowling fumbles and offensive tackle Darrian Miller recovers.

Max Smith kept on getting hit and he kept on firing. WIth 24 seconds left in the game he hits DeMarcus Sweat for a 22 yard TD to tie the game at 24. It's a 12 play 77 yard drive that takes 1:50.

In overtime, UK gets the ball first. Jonathan George, playing his best game at UK with an 11 yard run to give UK the 31-24 lead.

WKU was facing what looked like a 4th down in overtime when UK was called for a roughing the passer penalty. That gave WKU a first down. Antonio Andrews scores the TD to make it 31-30 UK.

Western goes for two. Jakes the quarterback throws to Andrews his star tailback, who throws it back to Jakes who easily gets in the end zone. WKU wins 32-31.

Max Smith was 37 of 60 for 332 yards, 2 TD passes and 4 picks.

Antonio Andrews beat UK on the ground rushing for 128 yards on 34 carries and 3 TD's.

UK falls to 1-2.
