BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - A Western Kentucky University building will be demolished after an inspection uncovered significant structural damage.

The "Rock House" was built using flat, irregular limestone rocks and was originally a private home.

The age of the house is uncertain, but it predates WKU, which opened in 1906.

It has been used by WKU's anthropology department since 1996 as a teaching and research laboratory and as a place to house archaeological collections.

It also has been a stop on Anthropology Club tours. And Boy Scout troops have held archaeology merit badge programs there.

Darlene Applegate, associate professor of anthropology and folk studies at WKU, told the Daily News the building has termite and water damage to the foundation (http://bit.ly/xjbyvZ).

Applegate said they are boxing everything up to move out in early March.
