A woman in Lexington got caught up in a fight between two men and suffered a gunshot wound late Wednesday night.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. in front of a home along Squires Woods Way. Police say two men got into an argument and the woman tried to intervene. One man's gun went off during the struggle, and a bullet hit the woman in the hip. EMS took her to UK Hospital. Officials called the victim's wound non-life threatening.

"These folks all know each other. They were all still at the scene when we got here. There is no reason to believe this was not an accident at this point," Lexington Police Department Lt. Mike Wright said.

Officers say they suspect alcohol was involved.
