A woman accused of abusing her two children in a Lexington park pleaded not guilty in the case Wednesday afternoon.
Police say the two children were hospitalized the incident at Coolavin Park in Lexington on Tuesday. According to court documents, Tanya Johnson, 27, hit her 3-year-old and 6-year-old sons with a belt causing several bruises on their bodies. Police say the 3-year-old also suffered a swollen eye when Johnson pushed him into a wall. EMS took the children to the hospital.
There was no information released on the conditions of the children, but officials say they will be released to social services.
Police charged Johnson with two counts of criminal abuse. She is due back in court on September 10.
