Lexington police responded in full force for what turned out to be a woman chasing an annoying animal early Friday morning.

The incident started when police received a report of a woman yelling and firing a handgun outside of an apartment complex on Virginia Avenue, near South Broadway, around 1:45 a.m. The woman went inside an apartment before police arrived. Officers shut down Virginia Avenue in the area and set up a tactical blanket to protect officers as they moved in on the apartment.

Police say officers got to the woman about 30 minutes later. It turns out she was shooting a BB gun at a pesky raccoon. She went back inside and went to bed, unaware of the drama playing out outside.

Police say the woman will not face any charges.
