Police say they cited a woman with endangering the welfare of a minor after she left a baby alone in a shopping cart outside a Lexington liquor store.

Officials say a customer noticed the 7-month-old girl alone in a shopping cart just outside the Liquor Barn in the Beaumont Center Wednesday evening. Police say the baby was outside in 25 degree weather for about 10 minutes. The mother later came back, saying it was an accident. Officers issued the citation, and investigators say they are looking into claims she was shoplifting inside the store. Police say they will examine surveillance video to determine if that was the case.

The child was unharmed and officer say she was smiling at them.

About two months ago, a man loaded three of his kids in a van outside of a Jessamine County Kroger and drove off, leaving a 6-month-old in a cart outside. He called 911 from his vehicle when he realized what happened and quickly returned. Police did not file charges in that case.
