Neighbors say a man ran into a burning Lexington home and helped pull a woman to safety Monday night.
The burning house along Florida Street, just off Broadway and Seventh Street, was first reported just before 10:30 p.m. Firefighters say they arrived to find heavy smoke and flames. Crews got the blaze quickly under control, but faced several challenges, including overhead power lines and neighboring homes very close to the burning house.
A neighbor, who didn't want to give his name, said he, along with others, spotted smoke, saw a woman inside and helped get her out before the flames engulfed the home.
"It made me feel real, real good, just knowing that she's safe. You can rebuild a home, but you can't rebuild a person. That's the most important thing. She's out. She's safe, and we'll go from there."
The woman was not hurt.
Firefighters have not determined what caused the fire.
