An Anderson County woman badly hurt in a horrific head-on crash between a dump truck and a van last Friday has died from her injuries.
The accident happened Friday around 4 p.m. on U.S. 62 near Star Hill Way in Anderson County. The Fayette County coroner says Marie Garmon, 43, of Lawrenceburg died Wednesday from her injuries at UK Hospital.
Kentucky State Police say to avoid rear-ending a car that was turning left in front of him, the driver of the empty dump truck that hauls asphalt swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting the van driven by Garmon.
"The truck was right here on her. It smashed everything towards her. She was moving her arms, but everything else she couldn't move," says Amber Baker, a witness who was in one of the cars in front of the dump truck.
First responders cut the front off the dump truck and the roof off the van to get Garmon out. Police say she was conscious and speaking to paramedics. She was airlifted to UK Hospital.
Witnesses say speeding is a problem on US 62.
"These big trucks drive really fast," said witness David Mastin.
The driver of the dump truck, Eric D. Jenkins of Hustonville, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
