A woman was taken to UK Hospital Monday morning after the van she was driving on Russell Cave Road crashed into a tree just before 1 a.m., according to Lexington Police.
Authorities say the woman was driving toward Cynthiana on Russell Cave Road when she lost control of the van while rounding a curve.
The victim was taken to the hospital with a cut on her head. Police suspect alcohol may have played a role in the accident.

It surprises me that more people do not have accidents on Russell Cave Road.
I live on a road that's just off Russell Cave and have been traveling Russell Cave Road for 33 years to get to and from Lexington. It is nothing to meet another car in the curves who is in your lane and traveling waaay too fast!
As a wise person (my husband) has said more than once---"If you start in time you will not have to rush or speed to get where you are going!"
If alcohol was involved in this one, it would not surprise me. And if it was alcohol-related, then speed, I'm sure, played a secondary role in that the person was traveling too fast to have control of the vehicle under the influence!
I know it's difficult for our law officers to be everywhere they are needed, but there needs to be some way to slow folks down on Russell Cave Road. It's hilly and full of curves so NO ONE should speed on this road---if and when they do they are taking their lives into their hands and maybe someone else's life in the bargain!

Something needs to be done. My best friend died on this road several years ago in the same fashion. He was a passenger and there were no drugs or alcohol involved in his accident. His fiancee lost him, his child lost him, his friends and family lost him and it is very very sad that they have yet to do SOMETHING about this road.
