A woman was killed Wednesday morning in a crash involving van and passenger car that shut down a road near the Washington/Marion County line.
The accident happened at around 9 a.m. on Kentucky 55 south of Springfield near the Washington/Marion County line. State police said that the driver of the van, Marion Greathouse, 31, of New Haven, may have fallen asleep before the van collided head-on with a car driven by 24-year-old Melanie Mattingly of Springfield, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
Greathouse was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.
Police said the roadway remained closed for several hours before being re-opened at around 12:45 p.m.
