A Whitley County woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash.

The incident happened at about 1 p.m. on KY 1193 (Bee Creek Road) in Whitley County. Upon arrival, police determined that a 1989 Chevrolet van driven by Virginia B. Lewis, 53, of Corbin, was traveling southbound on KY 1193 when it dropped off the southbound shoulder of the roadway. Lewis braked, over-corrected and came back onto the roadway, where the van skidded out of control into a field and overturned.

Lewis, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County coroner.

No drug or alcohol usage was suspected.
