The woman accused of abandoning a puppy near the Kentucky River in Frankfort entered a guilty plea in the case Tuesday.
Stephanie Cooper, 43, was arrested in March and charged with cruelty to animals. Investigators say Cooper was caught on surveillance cam dumping a five-week-old chihuahua puppy on the river bank just yards from the Frankfort Humane Society.
A vet said the dog would have have died if left there any longer.
According to the plea deal, Cooper agreed to do 200 hours of community service under the county's Humane Society supervision, pay court fines and can't own a dog for the foreseeable future.
The chihuahua puppy was eventually brought back to full health and was adopted by a Franklin County woman.
