Lexington police say speed and alcohol may have played a role in a crash early Friday morning.
Police say a woman driving along Richmond Road around 2 a.m. lost control of her car and slammed into a tree near the Shriners Hospital. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to cut the woman from the wreckage. EMS took her to UK Hospital, and officials called her injuries serious.
Officers say they saw no evidence that the woman tried to brake before the crash.
Police have not released the victim's name.
