Woman Starts Petition To Keep Husband's Killer Behind Bars

A Perry County woman has started an online petition to keep the man convicted of beating her husband to death behind bars.

Brenda Nease is asking for online support in hopes a large number of signatures on a petition would keep Larry Elmore from receiving parole 25 years after he killed her husband.

CSX Railroad police special agent Shelby Nease was beaten to death on July 18, 1989 in Harlan County.

Shelby Nease spent six years with the Kentucky State Police before joining CSX Railroad as a special agent, a job he held for 18 years until he was killed in the line of duty. Brenda said her husband was investigating a copper wire theft when he was killed.

The Neases' daughters were 10 and 14-year-old when Brenda had to tell them their father would never come home.

25 years after the murder, Larry Elmore is up for parole, but Brenda doesn't want that to happen. She has started an online petition to keep him behind bars.

As of Friday around 4 p.m., the petition had reached 1,426 supporters, only 74 signatures away from Brenda's goal of 1,500.
