Police in Frankfort have arrested a woman they say left a chihuahua puppy in a box by a river bank earlier this week.
On Tuesday, employees at the Frankfort Sewer Department say they saw a woman in a late model silver Chevrolet SUV carry a box out of her car and put it on the river bank, then drive off.
Employees found a five-week-old puppy inside the box. Vets say the puppy would have died if it had not been found quickly.
On Friday, Stephanie Cooper, 43, was arrested and charged in the case. Frankfort police say she will be charged with cruelty to animals, second-degree.
The puppy is being taken care of by the Humane Society and is doing just fine.
