Mary Jo Perino is no stranger to the Bluegrass. She spent four years at LEX 18 as the weekend sports anchor before leaving for CNN. She was a sports anchor for CNN Headline News, where she covered the national sports scene, including covering the Kentucky Derby for CNN. It was there she realized how much she missed Lexington and all it has to offer.
Most recently, Mary Jo was named the 2009 Kentucky Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. She was given the award at a ceremony in Salisbury, NC.
A native of Minnesota, Mary Jo graduated from the University of Missouri and began her career in Terre Haute, IN. She then first came to Lexington in 2002.
Mary Jo is a HUGE True Blue Fan and says one of the best parts of her job is covering a team she loves. She also has a passion for high school sports in Kentucky.
Mary Jo is married to a Lexington native. She and her husband Steve have one son, the light of her life, Sam. In just 20 short years, look for him to be pitching for the Minnesota Twins.
In her spare time, Mary Jo loves to watch sports! Her husband is a big Cincinnati fan and she loves the Vikings and the Twins, which can cause arguments over what is on the TV! She also loves movies, especially quoting lines from her favorite comedies, traveling, singing karaoke (she's really good, just ask her!), cooking and spending time with friends and family.
