Lexington Police Investigating Two Shootings, One Block Apart
Police are investigating two shootings just a block away from each other Sunday night. The first happened just after 6 p.m. on Whitney Avenue, the second around 8:30 p.m. on Charles Avenue.
Lexington police say two men were shot several times inside a Cadillac on Whitney Avenue. They were both rushed to UK hospital with serious injuries, and several hours later, the coroner's office confirmed 31-year-old Montez Graves died from those injures. The condition of the second victim is still unclear.
A few hours later, police were called to Charles Avenue to investigate another shooting, only a block away from Whitney Avenue. When police arrived on scene, they say one man was shot at least once and was taken to UK hospital with critical injuries.
Police tell us they're getting conflicting reports of who the shooter may be
"Generally, it was a male black between 5'11 and 6 feet tall. Possibly with a short afro and possibly dark skinned, and wearing some combination of black and white clothing that included a tank top and shorts," said Lexington Police Lt. Thomas Bastian.
Several neighbors have told LEX18 that the two men who were shot on Whitney Avenue are brothers, and the man shot on Charles Avenue is their father. However, police have not been able to confirm if these men are related.
