Steve Butera joined LEX 18 News in June 2015 after working in newsrooms in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and in his home state of West Virginia. He anchors LEX 18 News at Sunrise Weekend and is a morning live reporter during the week.
A proud West Virginia University Mountaineer (let the hate begin), Steve attended the WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism for undergrad and grad school. "Wild and Wonderful" is also where he started his reporting career, starting as a part-time videographer for his hometown CBS affiliate while in college. He eventually anchored and produced the weekend newscasts while he was still a full-time student during the week.
Steve has covered some big stories over the years, including the Sago Mine disaster, the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, and the same-sex marriage debate involving Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis. His work has been recognized by the Associated Press, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. While working at Knoxville's NBC affiliate, he was part of a team earning a national Edward R. Murrow award for overall excellence.
If you have a story you would like Steve to cover (or just a transplanted Mountaineer, living in the Bluegrass, and wants to relive the days Pat White and Steve Slaton), send him a message on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email.
