Alliance Coal Announces Layoffs

Posted: Updated:

WFIE-TV is reporting that coal miners in Western Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana are set to be out of a job.

Alliance Coal Vice President Heath Lovell announced in a press release Friday that the company plans to do layoffs or workforce reductions at several of its mines.

Lovell says that Alliance will do a temporary reduction-in-force at Union County's River View Coal and White County Coal, in Carmi, IL. They say the reduction will include 75 employees, according to WFIE.

They report that Lovell says Alliance also issued WARN Notices to workers at Warrior Coal's Cardinal and Hopkins County Coal's Elk Creek mines.

Those mines will be laying off workers on April 5.
