LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky homeless shelter is going to start requiring that patrons be immunized against Hepatitis A before staying. The Lexington Herald-Leader reported Thursday that Catholic Action Center co-founder Ginny Ramsey says the shelter will offer free Hepatitis A vaccines for those who don't have health insurance. The Lexington shelter will start enforcing the requirement Aug. 6.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia's elk project leader says it appears 10 to 15 elk calves were born between late May and mid-June in the state. Randy Kelley, elk project leader for the Division of Natural Resources, tells The Herald-Dispatch the exact number isn't yet known.

CAVE CITY, Ky. (AP) - Mammoth Cave National Park has upgraded a trail as part of a coordinated effort by the National Park Service to increase accessibility to disabled visitors. The Echo River Spring Trail reopened earlier this year after a $1.1 million transformation from a rutted gravel footpath to an 8-foot-wide concrete path. National Park Service accessibility chief Jeremy Buzzell says nine parks across the U.S. have received more than $10 million in federal funding to design and build accessibility projects.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Utility crews are working to restore power for tens of thousands of Kentuckians after the state was pounded by severe storms that toppled trees and power lines. News outlets report that about 40,000 utility customers in Fayette County still had no power Saturday morning after the Friday storms rumbled across the state, producing high winds and hail.
