LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Horse racing's most visible races are set to begin with the Kentucky Derby during the first week of May. The events are underscored by a concern about the future of immigrant workers who support the tracks. Immigrant workers at Churchill Downs say they fear they will be deported under the Trump administration, even if they are in the U.S. legally. Trainers worry Americans will not take the jobs if they leave.
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - The Mid-Kentucky Kennel Club is buying oxygen masks to be used by firefighters on animals suffering from smoke inhalation. The sets of masks are being donated to the 14 fire departments in Hardin County and three in LaRue County. Each set comes with three different sizes of masks _ one for a cat, one for a small dog and one for a large dog.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - For the next year and a half, the public won't be able to tour the Kentucky plant that manufactures the Corvette. Katie Frassinelli of the National Corvette Museum tells the Bowling Green Daily News that the suspension is due to extensive work planned at the General Motors Bowling Green Assembly Plant. All plant tours will be shut down after June 16.
FRANKLIN, Ky. (AP) - Nearly 14 months after being shot three times while trying to serve a warrant, Simpson County Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Eddie Lawson returned to work Monday. Lawson, a 25-year law enforcement veteran who has worked long enough to retire, said he isn't ready to turn in his badge.
