Police: Man Accidentally Shoots Self With Stolen Gun

LEXINGTON ,Ky. (LEX 18) - Police say a man is in jail after he accidentally shot himself with a stolen gun in Lexington.

It happened around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon in the Dick's Sporting Goods parking lot in Hamburg.

Police say the man had a gun in his pocket and it went off, sending a bullet through his leg. Initially, investigators say he tried to hide the weapon from police. That's when they discovered the gun was stolen.

The man is expected to recover. The victim's been charged with evidence tampering and receiving stolen property.

    KENTUCKY (LEX 18)-- If you saw a bright ball of light moving through the sky early Monday morning, you're not the only one.  According to the American Meteor Society, there were 31 reports of a fireball meteor in Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and West Virginia.  The reports in Kentucky were in Somerset, Lancaster, Louisville, Columbia, Bowling Green, Berea, Lexington, Nicholasville, Bloomfield, and Shelbyville.

    (LEX 18)-- An alert has been issued about an infectious disease going around Hardin and Nelson counties. The News Enterprise reports about 50 cases of Shigella have been confirmed. The majority of those cases were in daycare aged children. Shigella is a bacteria that infects the intestines and causes a highly contagious diarrheal illness.
