Uptick In Convicted Felons With Guns Concerns Sheriff's Dept.

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) A recent uptick in guns being found with convicted felons is causing concern for the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

Sunday night, a deputy working an off-duty assignment at the Prince Hall Village Apartments recovered a gun that the sheriff's office said had been stolen.

Sheriff Pat Melton tells LEX 18 that they have recovered three guns in only five days.

Last week, a long-term cocaine distribution investigation led to the arrest of Martinez Larry and Joseph Johnson, both convicted felons and both in possession of loaded guns. Larry was on shock probation for a previous cocaine trafficking conviction.

Both men also have numerous drug trafficking charges and convictions.

Krystal Griffin and Jeremy Howard were also arrested in the investigation.

Sheriff Melton said that an unrelated traffic violation brought in another stolen weapon Sunday night. Allen King from St. Louis was arrested at Prince Hall Apartments.

In addition to allegedly being under the influence with no license, deputies found a pistol with a 30 round magazine under the front seat.

“As fast as you can pull the trigger, it's going to shoot,” said Sheriff Melton.
