LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) - Kentucky State Police are investigating after an officer-involved shooting in Lexington overnight.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. An officer patrolling the Stanton Way area, near the La Quinta Inn off Newtown Pike, investigated a suspicious car and shots were fired during the time, according to police.
Police said the suspect is a 26-year-old Lexington man. He was taken to UK Hospital for treatment of his injuries. His condition is unknown.
They said no other people were in the vehicle and the officer was not injured.
The officer involved is a three-year veteran of the Lexington Police Department, and police said he has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
According to police, he was wearing a body camera. They said video of the incident will be reviewed by investigators and the Commonwealth’s Attorney office.
Detectives are combing the scene for evidence and are working to gather more details. Lexington Police are planning a news conference to release more information later Wednesday.
The last officer-involved shooting involving Lexington Police was back in November 2014. It was also non-fatal.
