Woman Accused In Murder, High-Speed Bucket Truck Chase Appears In Court

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) -- The woman accused of murdering a man and then stealing a bucket truck and leading authorities on a chase through several counties appeared in a Fayette County courtroom.

Vanessa Napier was indicted by a grand jury Wednesday for the murder of 53-year-old John Sharp. Preliminary autopsy results say Sharp was stabbed multiple times in the chest.

Sharp's body was discovered when officers conducted a welfare check at the home. The day before, police say Napier had led detectives on a 40-mile pursuit on I-75  in a bucket truck she stole from a gas station off the Athens-Boonesboro exit in Fayette County. Napier was charged with second-degree wanton endangerment for allegedly dragging the driver of the bucket truck, driving under the influence, first-degree robbery, fleeing and evading police, operating on a suspended license, first-degree wanton endangerment, and criminal mischief.

She is also charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Judge Thomas Travis is now residing over the case.  He takes the place of Judge Thomas Clark who resigned last November. A judge set a motion hearing for Wednesday April 19.

Defense attorneys are asking for clarification of previous judgments made on behalf of Judge Clark.
