Council To Appoint New Bardstown Mayor

Posted: Updated:

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (LEX 18/Kentucky Standard) - Less than a week after the Bardstown mayor was voted out of office, the city council will meet to appoint a new mayor.

The Kentucky Standard reports the council will meet Tuesday afternoon to appoint a mayor, who will probably be one of its own members.

The group found former mayor John Royalty guilty of misconduct, including violating one council member's privacy.

The council says Royalty asked an IT supervisor to collect the iPads of all the council members so he could install a security update.  Instead, the council claims that he allegedly went through the members' emails and even shared some of those with a private citizen.

The council will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday to appoint a new mayor.
