Child Dies From Injuries Sustained In US 25 Crash

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) -- A child has died after a Laurel County crash that sent nine people to the hospital.

The Fayette County Coroner tells LEX 18 that Jacob Sturgill, 8, succumbed to injuries he sustained in the crash.

The crash happened on US 25 on Monday.  Deputies say that a Chevrolet Venture was traveling southbound on US 25 and turned left at the intersection of KY 3094 when it turned into the path of a northbound gray-colored Toyota Highlander. The vehicles collided around 9 a.m.

The Chevrolet Venture had an adult female driver and five children in the car. According to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office, three of the five children received critical injuries.

The Toyota Highlander had an adult female driver with an 11-year-old and 14-year-old passenger that received moderate injuries. The driver of the Highlander was identified as 42-year-old Rachel O'Neal. She was transported to St. Joseph Hospital London.

The driver of the Venture has been identified as Teresa Sturgill, 29, of East Bernstadt. She was transported to St. Joseph Hospital London for treatment of moderate injuries.

Sturgill's other passengers included a 10-year-old, a 16-month-old, a 6-year-old and a 4-year-old.
