Reggie Warford To Receive Lifesaving Transplant

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) -- Some True Blue fans remember Reggie Warford playing for Joe B. Hall at UK. Others remember him for being an assistant at Pittsburg when Coach Calipari was there in the 1980s.

What Reggie should be remembered for today is his bravery. Reggie is fighting for his life and he tells LEX 18's Alan Cutler, that an angel has stepped forward to change everything.

Warford had a heart transplant in 2014. He lost so much blood that his kidneys failed. He's been on dialysis twice a week and his kidneys can no longer handle the strain. His kidney problems are so bad that his limbs swell up after the procedure and he has difficulty walking.

Shelly Tronble, a coworker of Reggie's wife Marisa, decided to do something to help.

Tuesday, she is donating her kidney to Reggie.

Reggie was stunned.

"The tremendous strength that is to have on a family. For two people to be shut down for weeks and not working. To benefit an imperfect stranger. That's a tremendous sacrifice," Reggie told LEX 18.

Shelly's husband Larry, was immediately on board with the decision. He will even take off work to care for his wife. She hopes that others will consider donating the gift of life.
