Storm Damage Hits Taylor County

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) -- The employees at Fiesta Mexico say the restaurant was packed with people around dinner time Tuesday when a storm came through and ripped off a portion of the roof.

They tell LEX 18 it was a terrifying experience both for them and for the patrons.

The storm hit just before 6 p.m. when those working at the restaurant say a gust of wind hit the side of their building, cracking a panel of glass.

Everyone inside the restaurant screamed, but they thought that was the end of it. Unfortunately, a few moments later, a bigger gust hit and peeled off half of the roof.

Rain began gushing in through cracks in the ceiling and all the patrons ran to the other side of the restaurant.

"They started to panic. We all were panicked. We just told them to get to the other side and we moved all the tables and chairs and started mopping up the water and pushing it out the doors," Eduardo Guzman, a server, tells LEX 18.

While employees work to fix the roof and clean the inside, they expect the restaurant to be closed at least a week.
