Sheriff's Office: Missing Man's Body Found In Kentucky River

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) At a news conference with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Pat Melton announced that the body of a man who had been missing for days was found in the Kentucky River.

His body was recovered around noon Wednesday.

Crews had been searching for days for Will Rawlings along the river behind the Buffalo Trace Distillery.

The 26-year-old's car was found on the bank. He is a night watchman at Buffalo Trace. He was off duty when police say he pulled his car down to the area to fish.

Emergency Management said during the meeting that the river was up a couple of feet during their search, creating a current that made it difficult to find Rawlings's body.

While the sheriff said they believed from the beginning that Rawlings had slipped into the river, the coroner says they're still looking into what happened and they are not ruling anything out. The Sheriff says that they believe the man's death was just a tragic accident.

An autopsy will be done Thursday.
