Advertisers Cash In On 4/20 Craze

Posted: Updated:

(Today) - Whether you agree with legalization of cannabis or not, you have to admit that these businesses know how to target ads.

4/20 is just another day for some. For others, it's a day to celebrate marijuana usage. Some advertisers have cashed in on the stereotype of "the munchies" and have started ad campaigns in states with legal cannabis.

Ben and Jerry's announced their 4/20 creation the "Chill-aco." It's "half-baked" ice cream in a waffle taco shell. The "Chill-aco" will only be available on 4/20 and then will be gone in a puff of smoke.

Some businesses are even offering meals for $4.20

Totino's pizza rolls have released two commercials targeting the un-official holiday. App users can watch one of those commercials here.

The origins of the date, and the term "420" generally, were long murky. Some claimed it referred to a police code for marijuana possession or that it arose from Bob Dylan's "Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35," with its refrain of "Everybody must get stoned" — 420 being the product of 12 times 35.
