The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team hits the road this weekend for an Ohio Valley Conference series against the Eastern Illinois Panthers. Game one of the series is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, while the teams will face off at 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Colonels (21-16, 7-8 OVC) have won six of their last 10 games, and notched OVC series wins over UT Martin and Austin Peay in that span.

The Panthers (10-27, 4-11 OVC) are riding a three-game winning streak, which includes a win over OVC foe Belmont.

Ben Fisher’s 18 home runs and 50 runs scored are tied for first in the NCAA and lead the way for Eastern. Fisher is also tied for the OVC lead with 59 hits, and ranks second in the OVC with 52 RBIs and a .832 slugging percentage. The Colonels also lean on Daniel McFarland and his career high five home runs, 26 runs scored and 21 RBIs. Shea Sullivan also has a career high five home runs this season to go along with his 35 RBIs and 31 runs scored. Alex Holderbach has also found a steady place in the lineup as the sophomore has 29 RBIs and 21 runs scored this season.

Junior lefty Casey Collins will get the start on Friday night. Collins has the lowest ERA on the team among the starting pitchers. Eric Nerl will be on the bump for Eastern on Saturday, while Jack Piekos will take over the mound for the series finale on Sunday. Piekos has an opponent batting average of .230, the fourth lowest opponent batting average in the OVC.
