Colonels Head To SEMO For Regular Season Finale

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team heads to Cape Girardeau to wrap up its regular season with an Ohio Valley Conference series against the Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks this weekend.

Game one is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start on Thursday, and game two is set for a 7 p.m. start on Friday. The final game of the regular season is set to get underway at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Colonels (24-29, 10-17 OVC) picked up a win over regular season OVC champions Tennessee Tech last Friday, and dropped a mid-week game at Missouri on Tuesday.

SEMO (25-24, 13-14 OVC) has series wins over Tennessee-Martin, Jacksonville State, Eastern Illinois and Austin Peay, as well as a win over Missouri when the Tigers were the No. 23 team in the nation.  

EKU’s offense is led by Ben Fisher and his single season program record 23 home runs, second most in the NCAA. Fisher leads the nation in runs scored with 67, and ranks fifth in RBIs with 67. Alex Holderbach ranks second on the team in home runs with nine. Holderbach also has 62 hits, 47 RBIs and 37 runs this year. Shea Sullivan has 46 RBIs, while ranking second in hits with 69, and ranks second in runs scored with 47. Nick Howie is third on the team in runs scored with 46, and has eight home runs this season.

The Redhawks are led by Chris Osborne’s 71 hits, 52 runs, 44 RBIs and nine home runs. Tristen Gagen leads the team in home runs with 10 and RBIs with 55. Dan Holst has the best batting average with .380 to go along with his 68 hits and 43 RBIs.

Casey Collins will start on the mound for the Colonels on Thursday, while Bryan Quillens will get the starting nod on Friday.
