Family Of Murder Victim Promoting Peace

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) - Almost seven months to the day a man was gunned down and killed inside the downtown Chase parking garage, his family is trying to make Lexington a safer city in which to live and raise a family.

Friday would have been James Blair's 28th birthday, but instead of mourning his loss, his family will celebrate his life.

His older brother, Steven Richard, is organizing a block party and March for Peace in James' honor.

"I'm really trying to mentor the younger crowd and bring them up in the right way," Steven said. "I was steered down the wrong path myself -- if I can save one child or another kid from going down the same path I went -- that's my mission."

It all starts around what's known as the first store in Winburn at 6 p.m. Friday. There will be music, food and a March for Peace around the block.

"I know he's up there dancing and proud and keeps praying over me now," Steven said.

Last week, neighbors learned that a man killed during an after hours shooting in Nicholasville was the man police believe killed James. They said that's not the justice they wanted.

Instead of harboring hate, the family is promoting peace. They don't want anyone else to go through a death like James.

"There were some rough times, rough days, but with prayer and sticking together as a family, we got through it," Steven said.

    MADISON, Ind. (AP) - An Eastern Kentucky University student who disappeared more than 13 years ago has been declared dead by a judge.

    The judge's order sets the date of death for Molly Dattilo of Madison as July 6, 2004, the day the 23-year-old went missing in Indianapolis. Dattilo was an EKU student who was taking summer classes at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
