LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)-- The police officer and the victim involved in a fatal collision have both been identified.

Police say around 2:30 a.m., an officer hit a pedestrian with their cruiser while doing routine patrol.  Euclid Avenue was closed for several hours between Woodland Avenue and Transylvania Park as the scene was investigated.

The victim, described as a 50-year-old male, was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he passed away. The coroner has identified the victim as Dave Lynn Miles.

Miles died from multiple blunt force injuries. The Miles family reached out to LEX 18 and say he was homeless.

David Miles, an older brother of Dave Lynn Miles, says the family is currently mourning and wondering how the accident happened.

"What was the officer doing, you know? Was he occupied on the phone or texting or something?" Miles stated. "I'd like to get a whole lot of answers."

David Miles says his brother has been living on the Lexington streets for years, and refused to receive help over the matter. While Miles' closest wait for answers from the ongoing investigation, David Miles hopes his younger brother has finally found peace.

"I'm trying to tear up now, but I'm trying to stop it... because it hurts," Miles mentioned. "I Just hope he's in a better place."

The officer was responding to a request from another officer for assistance on a traffic stop. The officer’s body-worn camera was activated during this incident.

On Thursday, the officer was identified as Officer Jordan Truett. He joined the Lexington Police department in March 2013.
