Officials Finalize Eclipse Plans

Posted: Updated:

(LEX 18) As we get closer to the Great American Eclipse, Kentucky officials are preparing for what they're calling the most exciting two minutes in astronomy. They say their number one concern is traffic.

They have spent a year plotting, planning, and prepping as 21 western Kentucky counties get ready for the floods of people coming in to view the eclipse.

On Friday, officials gathered to cross-check and re-evaluate for any last minute needs.

The National Guard is ready with an activation plan and over the next couple of days, state emergency management will begin to mobilize to form a mini emergency operations center in Christian County

It's stressful, but officials say they are excited to prepare for such a positive event.

"We're ready, we're hoping it's not cloudy," said the Director for Kentucky Division of Emergency Management, Michael Dossett. "We're hoping people bring one thing with them aside from their ice and their food, bring some patience. It's gonna be a big crowd. It's going to be a one-of event."
