HARRISON COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) - The Harrison County shooting suspect accused of shooting at a helicopter and deputies has been taken into custody, officials confirm.
Judge Executive Alex Barnett identified the suspect as Thomas Field Van Meter. Van Meter was at the center of a long manhunt in Cynthiana.
Harrison County Schools canceled classes on Tuesday for safety reasons. The schools were on lockdown Monday as police searched for a suspect they say shot at a helicopter.
The Harrison County Sheriff says the gunman also shot at two or three deputies. No one was injured.
He was eventually found Tuesday morning on a farm where police had been searching. Police say he had two guns on his person at the time of the arrest.
Van Meter is facing four attempted murder charges. He will be taken to the Bourbon County Detention Center.
Law enforcement tells LEX 18 that Van Meter shot and fired at a Kentucky Utilities helicopter and struck the aircraft twice. The helicopter came down immediately, but safely. No one was injured.
