Interstate Reopens After Crash Involving State Trooper

Posted: Updated:

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) -- A KSP Trooper from the Hazard Post is in critical condition following a single-vehicle crash that closed I-75 Northbound Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred at Exit 41. The state trooper was airlifted from the scene of the crash. The officer was on his way to training in Frankfort when he ran off the road. KSP said that they believe the trooper actually crashed around 7 a.m. but was unable to call for help until 9 a.m. They think he may have been unconscious.

When troopers arrived in the area, they found Trooper Houston E. Lewis trapped inside his patrol car about 150 feet over an embankment in a wooded area.

He was removed from the vehicle and flown to UK Medical Center where he has been listed in critical condition.

KSP is in charge of the investigation.
