EKU Men's Golf Opens Season With Third Place Finish

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Senior Noah Combs placed third overall while leading the Eastern Kentucky University men’s golf team to a third place finish in the season-opening Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational on Tuesday.

The Marshall Invitational began Monday with two rounds of play.  The third round was scheduled to be played on Tuesday.  After stopping and starting the round several times, the final round was cancelled due to rain.

Combs shot rounds of 68 and 67 on Monday to finish with a total of 135, seven shots under par.  He finished four shots behind individual medalist Alex Weiss (131) of Marshall.

As a team, Eastern shot rounds of 283 and 282 for a total of 565, three shots behind first place Dayton (562).  Marshall (563) finished second, one shot back.  EKU beat a host of teams, including Youngstown State, William & Mary, Wichita State, Radford, Northern Kentucky and Belmont.

Billy Basham tied for 19th with a 36-hole total of 143 (+1).  Will Sallee (144) was one shot back and tied for 24th.  Jared Brown (145) was one shot further back and tied for 32nd.

The 15-team event was contested at the par-71, 6,573-yard Guyan Golf and Country Club.

The Colonels will play host to the EKU Intercollegiate sponsored by Raising Cane’s on Saturday and Sunday at the University Club at Arlington in Richmond
