SOMERSET, Ky (LEX 18) - According to an arrest citation, the man police say is responsible for the death of a woman in Somerset was captured on a surveillance camera in Lexington.
Chief William Hunt said in a press conference on Wednesday that Dwight Mitchell Bell confessed to the murder and robbery of
Ruthie Carolyn New. No bond has been set.
Police have released documents saying that shortly after the murder, Bell was caught on camera in a Lexington Rite Aid where he purchased Vienna sausages and chocolate milk.
Ruthie Carolyn New's body was found in the activity center of the Denham Street Baptist Church August 24.
Dwight Mitchell Bell was found in Dandridge, Tennessee and arrested without incident on charges stemming from the theft of New's vehicle. Surveillance also captured the vehicle in question in the parking lot of the Rite Aid.
Bell is lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center. He will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Friday morning.
In 1999, Bell was arrested for the death of his father in Indiana. He was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to several years in prison. A warrant for his arrest was also issued in Indiana on a strangulation charge.
