LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A concerning video involving an off-duty Kentucky State Police trooper and a road crew has surfaced, spurring an internal investigation.

The video was shot Sunday night by Justin Gaddis, a member of a road crew on Dixie Highway near the Patton Museum in Hardin County.

Gaddis said the man in the video ignored the slow sign, the safety light, and the cones marking the lane. A paving crew employee eventually yelled at him to slow down.

"He basically locked down on the brakes, the car went sideways, he jumped out of the vehicle, runs up to one of our guys on the paver, and basically got right in their face and starts screaming," described Gaddis. "Once he does, he pulls out a badge and says, I'm a state trooper and he was in plain clothing."

The man has since been identified as Trooper Anthony Harrison from the Elizabethtown post.

Gaddis said Trooper Harrison "lost it" and came at him, trying to grab his phone while he was recording.

Other crew members stepped in and that's when one got a busted lip. Three of them took the trooper to the ground on fresh asphalt. One person can be heard calling 911.

"We held him down the best that we could until other authorities got there," Gaddis said. "We didn't know what his state of mind was."

Sgt. Lawson with KSP Public Affairs said he had seen the video but is not sure what caused the confrontation. KSP's internal affairs branch is investigating. Harrison is in plain clothes in the video; Sgt. Lawson said it appeared he was off duty.

Gaddis said Harrison was in his personal vehicle.

"It is startling," Sgt. Lawson said. "Given the information we have just being the video, just having that to base any of our facts or opinions, just seeing the video it's startling and upsetting."

Gaddis said Trooper Harrison drove off. He's disappointed because his crews work with troopers all the time.

"We could have went into the other lane where traffic is trying to wrestle this guy to the ground and got hit by a car," Gaddis said. "We all want to go home at night to our families."

State Police said Trooper Harrison was off duty. While he did not work Monday, no disciplinary action has been taken at this point in the investigation.
